More than 2,000 cyclists will ride into Ellicottville this summer. The Centurion Cycling Competition will take place from August 17 to 19. Officials say the event could have a $3 million economic impact. It includes a series of road races and trials. 5,000 people are expected, including the 2,000 riders. Landing events like this is part of a plan to make Ellicottville a year round destination. Officials say overnight stays in Cattaraugus County are up 25%.

Across the border, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation will close the slot machines at Fort Erie Race Track on April 30. But Casino Niagara hit the jackpot. It's future was in doubt, but now Canadian officials say it will remain open. A report in this week's Business First says Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino and Resort could see renovations. They attracted more than 4.6 million patrons and generated $295 million in revenue in Ontario Lottery's second quarter. The report says the casinos employ more than 4,100 people and they've spurred $5.2 billion dollars in private sector development since 1996. The report says another $1 billion is in the economic development pipeline in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
