The federal government will award $1 billion to biotech firms in the U.S. as part of the health-care reform law. A report in today's Business First says the tax credits and grants will go to projects that show significant potential to produce new therapies, reduce long-term health-care costs or significantly advance the goal of curing cancer within 30 years. But the limited application window ends July 21. The report says 90 percent of biotech firms nationwide plan to apply for the grant. Half say they'll add up to 10 jobs if they get full funding.
Eden is known for its kazoos and soon it will be known for its kites. A report in today's Business First says the kazoo factory has landed a kite manufacturing operation, Buffalo box kite designs, founded by a local resident. The kazoo production facility is owned and operated by Suburban Adult Sservices, Inc. A team of 15 people with disabilities sew and assemble the kites, which will be sold locally and nationally.
