When you think Super Bowl food, pizza and wings top the list for many football fans.
Area pizzerias are already busy preparing for the big game on Sunday. Just Pizza plans to sell 3,000 to 4,000 pizzas at its Western New York locations, along with literally "tons" of chicken wings.
But Mark Campanella, with Just Pizza, says 90 percent of that is pre-ordered. Even small pizzerias are asking customers to order ahead of time. That way Sunday is really about logistics and mapping out a strategy.
Meanwhile, Campanella says football fans are going for some gourmet flavors this year. "Everybody has gotten away from the meat and potatoes: the cheese and pepperoni," he said. "Now it's the three cheese steak, it's shrimp on your pizza, it's all the veggies, the fresh roasted garlic, the fresh basil with the fresh roma tomatoes, it's fresh mozzarella. They do it all!"
Campanella says the key to fill those orders is to be organized since some orders will still come in on Super Bowl Sunday.
According to pizza.com, delivery sales of pizza spike the most during close Super Bowl games.
