Scooters are catching on in WNY, thanks to the Buffalo Scooter Company. The owners of Russo's Auto Service opened the business, complete with a full service retail showroom on Oak Street about three months ago. They carry two brands of scooters in many different models.

Manager Jeff Russo says scooters are popular because you can get one starting at $2500, you get 90 to 100 miles per gallon of gas and you can go up to 40 miles per hour. He says they are a perfect alternative for city travel. And one sale often leads to another. "These actually get more attention than a motorcycle," he said. "When one person buys one their friends want them as well."

Russo says you can't ride the scooters in a Buffalo winter, but you can get a solid six months of use. He says many couples are opting for one car and one scooter in the household.
