New York Tops Nation for School Spending

A new Census report shows that New York's public elementary and secondary schools spent more than $17,000 per pupil in 2007-08. Researchers say that's 67 percent higher than the national average, which tops $10,000 per pupil. New Jersey was second for spending, followed by Alaska. Three Western states spent the least: Utah, Idaho and Arizona.
Researchers say "public education is the single largest category of all state and local government expenditures."

The Niagara Falls International Airport is expanding. The NFTA is buying a vacant 9.6 acre parcel across from the airport for $450,000. It will be used for overflow parking at the airport. The NFTA says there is a demand for additional parking since the new terminal opened.

The new Canadian Monopoly game is out and Hasbro left out Niagara Falls, Ontario and its waterfalls. Business First says city leaders lobbied to get included and are not pleased. 22 locations were included in the game. Hasbro says they were picked from more than one million on-line votes.
