New Era is moving forward with its WNY expansion. That's the focus of a report in this week's Business First. In January, New Era decided to shift its U.S. operations to its derby plant. It is in the process of closing two Alabama plants. New Era plans to invest more than $3 million on new machinery and equipment in Derby and hire more than 100 workers. The Derby plant produces thousands of caps and other items every week. Company officials tell Business First that number will grow with the expansion.

Another tenant at HSBC Tower is considering a potential move. Business First says Phillips Lytle LLP began looking at alternative sites last summer. Its lease expires in December 2013. Phillips Lytle is the second-largest law firm in Buffalo. It rents 85,000 square feet in the tower. Last week, HSBC Bank announced that is may pull out of its lease at the tower, which is Buffalo's tallest building. Business First says HSBC will look at a range of options and decide in the next few months.
