A report in today's Business First shows how not for profit health insurers have paid 50 directors close to $1 million in total compenstation. According to reports with the State Department of Insurance, board members at not for profits Blue Cross Blue Shield, Univera and Independent Health were paid anywhere from $400 to more than $114,000. Board members and executives say compensation is on par with nationwide numbers and that it's is warranted, because they are governing multibillion-dollar organizations.
Mercy Hospital is ready to unveil an expansion project that will put its helipad back into operation. The helipad closed in 2000 when Trocaire College expanded and required approach distance was limited. Mercy will unveil its new $32 million emergency department in May.
Goya Foods is eyeing a $13.5 million expansion at its Angola bean processing plant that would double it's workforce. Business First says Goya considered moving to Houston or Dallas. The ECIDA will hold a public hearing on incentives next week.
