The popular seasonal trolley service that offers Niagara Falls visitors vehicular travel options around the Cataract City is coming back this summer.
The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's commissioners agreed to a new pact with the City of Niagara Falls that will transport visitors from Niagara Falls International Airport to various hotels and destinations in the Cataract City. In years past, the trolley service ran between the Summit Park Mall, which is now all but closed.
The NFTA, last fall, opened a 68,000-square-foot passenger terminal at Niagara Falls International Airport.
Under the terms of the contract, the City of Niagara Falls will pay the NFTA $46,852 per month, or $281,112 for the season, to operate the trolley. Funds come from portions of the bed tax collected in Niagara Falls.
Service begins on May 14 and will run through Oct. 11.
Last year, 30,500 people used the service.
The NFTA will provide Niagara Falls area hotels with passes for the service. The pass is valid only for the day and month designated and good for the trolley as well as the authority's Metro Bus and Metro Rail lines.
