Twenty-three states added jobs during the past month, and New York was one of them. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Florida leads for job growth. It added 26,000 jobs between January and February, the only state with a month-to-month increase of more than 6,000 jobs. New York was second with an increase of 5,800 jobs, then Alabama, Wisconsin and Nevada. Twenty-seven states and the District of Columbia lost jobs in the past month. Virginia suffered the worst, losing 32,600 jobs in a month. California lost more than 20,000, and Michigan and Pennsylvania each lost 16,000.
The Common Application process is catching on with college hopefuls and schools. A report in this week's Business First shows how more than a million students are using the process where you fill out just one application and send it to a variety of schools in the system. About 400 colleges accept it. In WNY, eight schools participate. Four just starting using the Common Application. This year.
