Surgeons at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital participated in a live surgical demonstration Friday for an international audience.
The neurosurgical procedure was featured during a teleconference broadcast of the 2009 International Course on Carotid Angioplasty Conference in Germany.
Featured surgeons were Drs. L. Nelson "Nick" Hopkins, Adnan Siddiqui and Elad Levy, all of whom are internationally known for their interventional work on endovascular neurosurgery and stroke. The three neurosurgeons are also on faculty at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
The course is designed to provide updates on developments in interventional techniques, materials and strategies for treating aortic disease. Conference attendees viewing the surgery include hundreds of cardiologists, radiologists, neurologists, vascular surgeons, neurosurgeons and others.
This was the second consecutive year the surgeons were chosen as the only U.S. site to transmit to the conference.
Hopkins is also director of the Toshiba Stroke Research Center at UB and is leading the development of the Global Vascular Institute under construction by Kaleida and UB.
