Many times, when employees are laid off, they're inspired to start their own business. That's just what happened to Tony Kuras, co-owner of Things for All Seasons, a gift shop on Southwestern Boulevard in Lake View. After more than 30 years in the manufacturing industry, he lost his job and was forced to find something new. He teamed up with friend and contractor Nick Popovsky on the retail venture that they say has potential and will draw customers away from big box retailers that are nearby. Right now, Things for All Seasons is stocked with fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas supplies, decorations and gifts, along with other year round gift items.
Despite a slow economy, the Erie County Clerk's office says 238 business certificates were filed in Erie County in September alone.
