Hamburg Walmart Opens

The new Southtowns Walmart opened its doors today at 7am on Southwestern Boulevard. Store officials say the store is the average size for the Buffalo area, but it features wider aisles, skylights with natural light, lighting that uses 70% less energy, floors made with recycled materials and more. Officials say it's all part of "the company's next generation of store design and customer experience." The façade of the store is designed to match that of Brierwood Country Club across the street. The store replaces the old Brierwood Plaza in Hamburg, which sat vacant for decades. It also replaces the old Walmart on McKinley Parkway. That store is now closed and for sale. The new store will create 200 new jobs and will employ a total of 450 people, including workers from the old store.
