The plan to renovate the medical-surgical unit at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will be aided by a $125,000 challenge grant from the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation.

Officials want to create an area that will assist both patients and families of all ages, all levels of care and in all health-care settings.

Work on the unit is scheduled to begin in March with completion targeted by August. The cost of the project is pegged at just under $1.25 million.
