Wing Fest pays off for sauce maker

Financial analysts say M&T Bank and First Niagara are likely bidders for HSBC's retail business. A report in this week's Business First shows how the 175 branch network from Buffalo to Albany has about $15 billion in deposits. Analysts say it would be easier to sell to one party, but HSBC could get better pricing it if splits up deposits.

A former patient from Roswell Park Cancer Institute is donating $500,000 to the hospital, enough to complete a $1.1 million liver and pancreas tumor center. The former patient, Anne Virag, was successfully treated at Roswell for liver cancer. The new center will offer expanded treatment options for other patients.

A local entrepreneur has a spicy business going thanks to the National Buffalo Wing Festival. James Herdlein won an amateur sauce competition at the festival last year for his organic pepper sauce. Now a report in this week's Business First says he is awaiting final approval from the FDA to begin mass production..
