What's next for Holy Angels site?

Leadership for the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart is ready to begin discussing sale of the Holy Angels Academy property in North Buffalo, a school spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Holy Angels announced in April it will close its high school and fledgling elementary school this year, leaving a modern school building and a 17,700-square-foot Athletic and Performance Center, which underwent a $2.2 million renovation in 2007.

The Holy Angels board met with the Grey Nuns on Monday to discuss the process, said Maureen Maguire, who has been speaking on behalf of the school. Those interested in purchasing the property are directed to call Maguire at 716-491-1990, who will then direct them to the Pennsylvania-based Grey Nuns.

Several educational entities have privately confirmed interest in the property to Business First, while a range of developers have said the property could work as a mixed-use or residential project.

Maguire said there were no discussions at Monday’s meeting about the preferred use of the building.

“From a common sense perspective, it already is a school,” she said. “But we’re not limiting inquiries to that.”

No formal asking price will be set until the property gets an updated appraisal, Maguire said.
