Mercy Hospital has completed a $1.6 million upgrade to its digital X-ray department.

The project included creating two digital radiographic/fluoroscope imaging suites, part of a larger project that will locate all of its imaging services together on the hospital's main floor.

Mercy, part of Catholic Health, opened the suites late last week.

The project follows the opening in spring 2011 of a new MRI/CT suite, a $12 million upgrade of the imaging department.

The new equipment uses digital technology that allows the physician to see the X-ray image immediately on a computer screen.
