Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - In the hours after the groundbreaking for UB's new medical campus, there are high hopes for businesses in the Allentown area nearby.

The medical campus will bring two-thousand students, faculty and staff to downtown Buffalo by the fall of 2016.

That's just part of the growing Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, which is expected to grow to 17-thousand people by 2017.

The area nearby has become place where young business owners want to develop.

"The last five years have been exciting watching everything transition, and the next five years are supposed to get better and better," says Mary Cohen, the Manager at Just Vino. "Hopefully, more people living downtown, more people walking downtown. We're excited for the future."

The school will be connected to a built-in metro stop. Entrepreneurs hope that also lures more people in the area as well.
