Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Two teens will be arraigned, Wednesday, on felony charges of Animal Cruelty after setting a small puppy on fire.
The two suspects, who police are not identifying, were picked up late Tuesday afternoon accused of burning five-week-old Jack Russell Terrier named Phoenix. The dog was found with severe burns in a backyard on Herman Street in Buffalo last month.
This case of abuse has the community outraged. Many people are coming together to raise money for Phoenix's many surgeries to help nurse him back to health.
"Thankfully, the little puppy is still alive. He's getting great care from the animal hospital. The people in this community, the people in Buffalo, the people of Western New York, I think even people outside the area have reached out to this puppy. Hopefully at the end of the day, things will be okay," Buffalo Police Spokesperson Michael DeGeorge said.
Phoenix received a number of skin grafts and underwent laser therapy to treat the severe burns across his body. Although his health is slowly improving, veterinarians said he has a long road to recovery.
As for the suspects, they are expected in court, Wednesday.
