The IRS is giving taxpayers until April 18 to file their tax returns this year. Many procrastinators wait until the last minute, thanks to e-filing.
Rosemarie Steeb is a local CPA, who has a tax practice in Depew. She is reminding taxpayers not to overlook deductions as they rush to file returns. "I often see people who know about giving to charities. When they write a check, they deduct that," she said. "But donations to Salvation Army or Goodwill, the mileage to and from that dropoff is also deductible at a rate of 14 cents a mile." Steeb says mileage to charitable events or programs is also deductible.
