The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops Markets is celebrating its 30th birthday and organizers say everyone is invited to the two-day party, which is billed as the largest two-day food festival in the nation.
Visitors will find a birthday party complete with cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, along with more than 200 food items from 50 area restaurants.
This year there are 11 newcomers to the taste. Organizers say there aren't any restaurants who have taken part in every single Taste over the past thirty years, but some like E.M. Chrusciki Bakery have come close. They've been taking part since 1989 and this year they're switching up the menu.
"We've always had cheesecake," said Ania Gurnari. "For the last 25 years, we've had NY style cheese cake. This year, we have a cookie bottom cheesecake. It will be topped with cherries or plain. It's fantastic. It's a new recipe we created this year. I'm super excited about it."
Also new this year, a root beer cake and angel food cake with a light chocolate topping for the healthy choice. Traditional chrusciki or angel wings will also be available.
It's not easy for restaurants to take part in the Taste, whether it's keeping food hot or cold. It's always a challenge on downtown streets, but they say it's worth it to get that recognition with customers. And, they say, if you win an award, it goes a long way to build your reputation in the restaurant industry.
The event runs all day on Saturday and Sunday.
