BUFFALO, NY (WKBW/BIZ FIRST) -- A mothballed South Buffalo Catholic grammar school whose alumni include the late Tim Russert is poised to become the city's latest senior citizen apartment complex.

After more than one year of planning, an affiliate of Delta Development has acquired the former Holy Family School on Tifft Street near South Park Avenue. The company's plan is to transform the 95-year-old building into a 35-unit apartment complex, geared to low-to-moderate income level senior citizens.

Delta Development will be investing an estimated $8.2 million on the project.

Delta Development, through its Holy Family Apartments LP and Holy Family Housing Development Fund Co. I Inc., paid $300,000 for the school, adjacent to Holy Family church. It had been owned by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.

The deal closed July 12, according to documents, filed with the Erie County Clerk's office.
