BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Local Initiatives Support Corp. received a $33,500 grant award from the U.S. Small Business Administration to help low-income and very low-income entrepreneurs with training and technical assistance to start, operate and grow their businesses.

The organization, with operations in Buffalo and other parts of the state, was among 92 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive $8 million in grants through the SBA's Program for Investment in Microentrepreneurs.

LISC's award was a second-year recipient in the program. The grants are intended to provide capacity-building services to microenterprise development entities to strengthen the quality of their programs. The grants help small businesses with fewer than five employees.
