Roswell Park Cancer Institute has opened its Niagara County satellite location.
The Wheatfield site, Roswell Park Niagara, is located on the ground floor of the Summit Healthplex on Williams Road across from the former Summit Park Mall.
As previously reported last June in Business First, the site will provide surgical oncologists to see new patients, provide consultations and follow-up care for thoracic, colorectal, urology, neurosurgery. Additionally, a dermatologist will provide services, including biopsies.
Roswell Park said this week it will staff the office with 10 physicians, a nurse practitioner and other clinical professionals in a 2,000-square-foot leased space.
Donald Trump, president and CEO of Roswell Park, said the cancer hospital is responding to a demand for cancer services in Niagara County, where new cancer cases grew by 8 percent between 1995 and 2009.
"The great thing about being able to extend our care to new locations is that those patients will still be part of the multidisciplinary case reviews that all Roswell Park care teams hold every week," he said.
The Summit Healthplex is operated by the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Other tenants include CCS Oncology and Excelsior Orthopaedics.
The area surrounding Williams Road is growing into a sizable medical corridor for residents of Western Niagara County and Northern Erie County. Health facilities with operations on nearby Elaine Drive include Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Buffalo Hearing & Speech.
Plans are underway for an ambulatory surgery center as a collaborative project between Niagara Falls Memorial, Kaleida Health and Endoscopy Center of NY LLC.
