The cover story in today's Business First takes at look at the red hot ceramics manufacturing sector in WNY. The report shows how a hungry global market has area plants stepping up production.

At TAM Ceramics, the furnace has a temperature of 4500 degrees Fahrenheit. Every month, the plant produces one million pounds of powder and grain forms of titanium oxides, which are used in brake pads, bricks and welding wires, golf clubs and more.

The report says TAM, in Niagara Falls, is now planning an $8 million expansion to capture a larger share of the brake-pad market and to recycle rare earth metals, while also adding jobs.

Other ceramics manufacturers have hired, acquired companies and expanded recently.
