Today's Business First is complete with trivia, asking readers to take a guess on the value of development in Erie and Niagara counties since 2010. Is it 945 million? Or maybe 4.6 billion? Or could it have reached 8.1 billion?

That's the focus of today's Business First. And the questions is even stumping area developers and leaders. Many were off-base when asked to put a dollar figure on the value of construction projects in Erie and Niagara Counties that were completed, are underway or in planning stages, since 2010.

According to Business First research, the answer is 378 projects totaling $8.1 billion.

That figure does not include most road or infrastructure work or residential subdivisions. But it does include high-profile projects along with smaller, neighborhood initiatives.

You can read about the development in the new Business First Core Strength publication in today's Business First.

Meanwhile, a different report says Buffalo needs more deals and more funding in life sciences. It shows how the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is expanding, but officials say they need to move researchers at UB, Roswell and other places from ideas to testing and to the market, with new life sciences companies. You can also read more about that issue in today's Business First.
