What do you do when the factory you've worked at for thirty years closes? Head back to the classroom. That's the focus of a report in today's Business First. It follows WNYers who have lost their jobs and are now trying to get back into the workforce. The report shows how the local unemployment rate is 8.6 percent, but The Manufacturing Institute estimates 82 percent of the region's manufacturers struggle to find qualified candidates. Erie Community College's industrial technology department has a 100 percent job-placement rate. There are federal programs to cover tuition and expenses for workers whose jobs have been shifted to another country. Many companies are fighting over machinists from the program. You can read more about which manufacturers are hiring in today's Business First.

Studio Arena Theatre, now known as 710 Main Street, is seeking a new name, hopefully from a corporation who is will to pay at least $500,000 for naming rights. Bids are due April 12th. The winner should be determined by early summer.
