Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week signed into law a measure expanding and renaming the Niagara Wine Trail system, which supporters say will allow for continued growth and tourism.
The governor's approval finalizes a law approved by state legislators in June that creates the Niagara Wine Trail Ridge (formerly the Niagara Escarpment Wine Trail); and the Niagara Wine Trail Lake (formerly Niagara Wine Trail).
The two trails include 17 wineries located throughout Niagara County. The law allows for an eastern expansion into Orleans and Monroe counties, helping to draw new attention to the trail and attracting additional visitors.
Funding for the rebranding and new signage comes from a 2011 Regional Economic Development Council Award.
