The former Baker Road Elementary School and a large tract of land where it sits has a date with the auctioneer's gavel.
The Orchard Park Central School District has retained Cash Realty & Auctions to auction off the 50,750-square-foot former elementary school and the 27 acres where it sits, with the auction set for Jan. 25.
Built in 1976, Orchard Park used the school until the mid-1980s when it was merged with other elementary schools in the district. For a while, the district used much of the building for its administrative offices, which were later shifted over to Southwestern Boulevard.
Erie II BOCES has leased a portion of the building for its alternative education programs for more than a decade, but Erie II BOCES is on a year-to-year lease, with the current pact expiring in June, said Jeff Pietrus, district assistant superintendent for business.
Pietrus said the decision to sell the building and surrounding land was made following a thorough review.
"It doesn't fit into our long-term needs," he said.
Auctioneer Cash Cunningham said he has fielded a couple of inquiries about the property, especially because it borders the Falcon Crest subdivision.
"There is a buzz growing," Cunningham said.
