A major shift is under way at some of the region's largest nonprofit agencies. That's the cover story in this week's Business First, called Succession Angst.

It shows how several of the area's million dollar nonprofit agencies are facing leadership decisions, as top executives retire. In just 18 months, six longtime leaders exited Western New York's largest service providers for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Some agencies have succession plans for a smooth transition, others are scrambling to identify candidates with a passion human services and financial and management skills..

The changes don't just affect upper management, but trickle down to a huge employment base. The report finds that 10,125 total employees are working under transitioning management.

Some of the largest employers include 3,000 at People, Inc., 2,300 at The Resource Center and more than 1,200 at Heritage Centers.
