You never know what you will find at the Erie County Fair.. Possibly even a daredevil attempting a high wire act?!
Nik Wallenda will be at the fairgrounds in Hamburg today. The 174th fair is in full swing, but plans are already underway for next year's fair, which will mark the 175th anniversary of the Erie County Fair.
Event planners are already working hard to make it a special event and they're getting some help from daredevil Nik Wallenda himself. He'll help kick off the countdown clock for the 175th.
Director of Entertainment, 175th Erie County Fair, Marty Biniasz says Wallenda has such a following in the local community that's it's natural the fair would go for the biggest stunt possible to mark its 175th anniversary.
"And a little sneak peak, he's looking for locations for 2014 stunts," Biniasz said. "So perhaps, the Erie County Fair can be added to the list of Niagara Falls and Grand Canyon stunts."
Wallenda walked across the Colorado River Gorge, near the Grand Canyon this year. He crossed Niagara Falls in 2012.
Biniasz says Wallenda will be doing site selections. "He's going to be meeting with the Strates family, who runs our amusement park, and some other fair officials. We'll see if it happens in 2014. Stay Tuned," Biniasz says.
One thing is for certain, Biniasz says Wallenda he will be available to meet with fans and sign autographs today. So fairgoers can check that out at after the 2 p.m. press conference on the fairgrounds.
