Name change for Bank of Castile

March 18, 2014 Updated Mar 18, 2014 at 11:17 AM EDT

The Bank of Castile is now known as Tompkins Bank of Castile following a corporate-wide rebranding initiative.

The bank's name will not legally change, but all of the relevant signs, logos and printed materials will reflect the new moniker, according to spokesperson Gregg McAllister.

The changeover - which started the week of March 10 - is being slowly rolled out at the bank's retail branches and customers are being notified, McAllister said.

Tompkins Bank of Castile is one of four banks owned and operated by Ithaca-based Tompkins Financial Corp. Together with sister company Tompkins Insurance Agencies, it plans to buy and renovate a building in Batavia for more back-office space.

The bank's request for $81,500 in tax breaks was approved earlier this month by the Genesee County Economic Development Center. In total, the project is expected to cost $1.6 million.

Tompkins Bank of Castile is the ninth-largest bank in Western New York, with 10 retail branches located in Orleans, Wyoming and Genesee counties and 185 local employees.
