Traffic jams, a mayoral welcome and long lines greeted Popeyes's Louisana Chicken as it opened its first Buffalo location Tuesday.
The chain, with more than 2,000 locations nationwide, officially opened the first of several planned outlets in the Buffalo Niagara region. From the minute it opened its 3,200 square foot Elmwood Avenue location, the restaurant was greeted by long lines. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially welcomed Popeyes.
The opening saw lines running deep along Elmwood Avenue to the point where Buffalo Police had to provide traffic and crowd control. some people waited more than two hours for their orders of fried chicken and other menu items.
Popeye's store was constructed by Concept Construction Corp.
The chain is planning other Buffalo area sites including one in Niagara Falls, set to open next year.
