How do you create a great workplace with strong morale? Ask First Niagara Financial Group. The bank is featured in a book called "All In." It's written by NY Times best selling authors and talks about First Niagara's winning culture.
Kate White, who works in Human Resources at First Niagara says there is an open door policy at work. "People seek out our senior leaders to share ideas," she said. "We aren't who we are without employees and their ideas on how to run our business and serve our customers."
Book co-author Chester Elton says that's all part of the culture that brings in big results. "And it's a bank! You know what I mean? They're excited about a bank. You're like I just want my ATM card to work, but when you come into those cultures when people hold the door for you and the tellers help you open a savings account for your kid's college fund, when they're excited and engaged, you want to do business with those kinds of people," he said.
Elton says customers can feel a winning culture when they walk into a business. He says First Niagara's culture starts at the top and trickles through the organization. White says it is infused into everything First Niagara does.
