The success of Made in Buffalo products has led to an international opportunity for a local company that got its start sharing products that are Made in WNY.
Made in Buffalo boxes feature popular hometown food items. They're shipped to customers across the country by City Made. Gary Steszewski has been running that operation, out of Western New York, since 1999.
It's so successful that it caught the attention of a UK company in need of distribution in 2009. That's how the company Biologistics was born. Now Steszewski is marketing Celox, a hemostatic agent developed for the military to stop bleeding on contact.
"It stops bleeding for soldiers on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan and it's 100 percent proven," Steszewski said, calling Celox a best kept secret, one that's becoming more popular with consumers, especially people on blood thinning medications or athletes. "If you're a basketball player and you cut yourself, you can't get back into the game unless you stop bleeding and this will stop the bleed in seconds," he said.
Celox is also used by EMTs and in many emergency rooms like Catholic Health. Steszewski says it is it's 97 percent natural and FDA approved. It comes in nosebleed strips, gauze or the most popular form - packets of powder.
Steszewski says Celox is selling fast, especially online. "Amazon is one of our best sellers of Celox on the internet," he said. "So there's people from all over the world that actually buy Celox."
He says it doesn't burn or sting and says it's safe and simple for both children and adults, even pets or livestock.
Right now, Celox is sold locally at Wanakah Pharmacy. Steszewski says he's working to get it into Tops, Wegmans and Tile Pharmacy in the near future.
