Select Macy's department stores are staying open right up until Christmas Eve. Macy's Walden Galleria is one of 14 stores across the country to stay open 83 straight hours, from 7:00 a.m. today, until 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. This is the first time the Walden Galleria Macy's is taking part in the last minute shopping blitz to give customers extra time to shop when it's convenient.

Local retailers like gift shop Things for all Seasons, on Southwestern Boulevard in Lake View, are also busy. The store recently expanded to a building twice its size. The shop and online store feature décor and gift items. The Siena Research Institute says 59 percent of New Yorkers are trying to purchase most gifts from locally owned and operated businesses this year.
