Lafayette Square to host eCycling event

The fourth annual eCycling event, where business machines are smashed to pieces, and old office equipment is recycled to raise money for charity, is scheduled for June 26 in Buffalo's Lafayette Square.

Data monitoring company Shatter I.T., is sponsoring the event, which runs from 8 a.m to 6 p.m., along with Business First, WKBW-TV, Rich Products Corp., Sunnking Electronics Recycling, Get Noticed Promotions and Ozone Design.

Sunnking is coordinating free pickup of old equipment prior to eCycling. They'll accept computers, printers, copiers, keyboards, mice, phones, pagers and monitors.Equipment that can't be refurbished then donated will find their way to the "Shatterzone" in Lafayette Square where people can pay cash to smash it.

For each pound collected, a donation of three cents will be made to Educational Technology Foundation of WNY.

Live music and visits from Buster Bison and Sabretooth are also scheduled.

A donation from event proceeds will be made to Education Technology Foundation of WNY, which increases technology access in education, especially in underserved populations.

Unusable hard drives are shredded while those in good condition are overwritten and re-used.
