BUFFALO, NY ( Business First ) A Kenmore native is sharing Western New York's hometown flavor with the rest of the country and even with Hollywood stars!
Diana Sproveri is the founder of lollibakes.com, a website that sells sweet treats like gourmet cake pops, cookies and chocolate covered graham crackers to customers across the U.S.
Sproveri moved to Los Angeles to work as a writer, but also became a pastry chef while at home with a newborn. She now owns a popular bake shop in California, where she endorses WNY food with her customers. "I tell everyone in Los Angeles, the best food in the world, you'll find in Buffalo, N.Y.," Sproveri said. "I've taken a lot of recipes and techniques, the love of chocolate and chocolatiering from Buffalo, and I've put it into the shop in Los Angeles."
Sproveri's creations have been served at the Oscars and the Emmys. She says her grandmother's recipe for jewel sugar cookies is a hit with TV stars, "Those cookies were served at the American Idol finale and I called her and she was so thrilled!"
Rachel Ray has even called upon Sproveri for her expertise. "I was asked to contribute to the magazine a couple of years ago and since then they've called me when they need entertainment or baking advice and it's been a thrill," she said.
Now Sproveri is giving back to her hometown community. A portion of sales from gift boxes will benefit Ryan Miller's Steadfast Foundation, which helps children and families at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
