Holiday Valley looks to expand

This ski season is barely underway and Holiday Valley Ski Resort is already looking to next year to expand. A report in today's Business First shows how the resort plans to replace its main lodge with a three-story building that will service skiers, along with those using the meeting and conference center. The report says Holiday Valley is working with the Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency on an incentive package and environmental review. IDA directors are expected to vote on the package in February. The lodge could open by next winter. Holiday Valley is open for skiing with a handful of trails now and the Mountain Coaster will be open this weekend.

A report in today's Business First shows how health insurers are spending big bucks on advertising. The report says the three local insurers: BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, Independent Health and Univera Healthcare, spent more than $22 million last year on marketing, advertising and branding. The figures are from the state insurance department. The health plans say they spend less than in other markets and they are outspent by other industries.
