Gun Sales Rise, Bisons Prepare for Opening Day

The nationwide gun debate is spiking gun and ammunition sales for a local company. A report in today's Business First shows how revenues at Pierce Munitions could nearly triple from last year. Pierce was founded in 2009. The company expanded to a new site in Angola this year. Pierce will make about 12 million rounds this year, including a Ted Nugent product line. 2013 revenues are projected at $5 million. Back in 2011, revenues were just $400,000. Officials say there's a nationwide bullet shortage that has resulted in increased volumes. The company says it is not capitalizing on national tragedies. Meanwhile, they are glad about higher sales volumes.

The Buffalo Bisons are preparing for their first opening day as the Toronto Blue Jays' triple-a baseball affiliate.
A report in today's Business First shows how the teams have found 68 ways to promote each other. The Blue Jays have offered the Bisons space in the Rogers Centre to promote the team. And ads for Bisons games will run during Blue Jays games telling fans to "come to Buffalo and see the future Jays." The report says the cross-promotional strategy is paying off. Advance ticket sales in Southern Ontario jumped 55%. And the Bisons have 100 new season-ticket holders from Southern Ontario. Opening day is April 4th.
