WNY (WKBW) - Area golf courses and country clubs are using the off season to tee off on a wave of construction and renovation projects. A report in today's Business First says, along with routine maintenance, there is a wave of big-ticket projects.

That includes course renovations along with pool and locker room upgrades. The list includes Wanakah CC, Park CC, CC of Buffalo and Harvest Hills Golf Course in Orchard Park. The report says the series of projects could indicate a stronger economy.

What's happening in Europe is actually hurting area colleges. A new report in today's Business First shows how overseas investments have been battered over the past year, as a result of Europe's financial turmoil.

That has had a real-world impact on endowments due to low investment returns. Luckily, many area colleges are kicking up fundraising efforts to try and keep a balance.

UB was lucky enough to get an anonymous, $40 million gift. You can read more about how area schools are being affected in today's Business First.

On Tuesday, Business First is hosting a breakfast to recognize WNY's Top Private Companies. It runs 7:30-9:30 am at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Buffalo. Tickets are $35. You can find a link at under News Links.
