A pair of Batavia projects, including the restoration of the city's former school administration building, have been approved for incentives by the Genesee County Economic Development Center.
Sales tax breaks for Batavia Hospitality Inc. were advanced to help finance renovations to a Super 8 motel just off of the New York State Thruway.
"Considering it is one of the first buildings you see when you exit the Thruway, the project is significant," said Chris Souzzi, Genesee County Economic Development Center vice president of business development.
Batavia Hospitality, which also owns an adjoining Days Inn hotel, is investing $530,000 in the project.
Also approved was an incentive package for Reed Batavia Properties LLC, which plans to renovate the former Batavia City Schools Administration Building on Washington Avenue into a medical center. The 13,452-square-foot building has been vacant for more than one year.
Reed Eye Surgeries will anchor the building.
"We are taking a tax-exempt, empty building and putting it back on the tax rolls," Souzzi said.
