October 22, 2012 Updated Oct 22, 2012 at 11:14 AM EDT

WNY (WKBW/Business First) - Four Western New York districts are among the 10 leaders in teacher pay in all of Upstate New York.

Sweet Home is No. 4 in Upstate teacher pay, according to new rankings issues this morning by Business First. It's followed by Williamsville, Lackawanna and North Tonawanda are eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Remsen, a small district in Oneida County, is the overall leader. It pays its teachers a median salary of $89,516, according to New York State Educational Department data for 2011, the latest year for which official figures are available. No other district has a median above $76,000.

Business First analyzed pay levels at the fifth, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 95ht percentiles in each district. 9If a district didn't provide the State Education Department with 2011 salary data, the figures from its most recently reported year have been substituted.)

Percentiles indicate the ranking of a given salary on a district's payroll. A salary at the 25th percentile, for example, is larger that 25th percent of all teachers' salaries within that district.
