Aaron Podolefsky, who recently resigned as president of SUNY Buffalo State, has died after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.

He was 67 years old.

"We are profoundly saddened by the loss of this cherished member of the Buffalo State family," said Howard Zemsky, chairman of the Buffalo State Council. "Dr. Podolefsky was the embodiment of the welcoming, engaging and collegial campus culture that defines Buffalo State. His wit, wisdom and kindness will be immensely missed."

Podolefsky became president of Buffalo State in July 2010. He yielded the post at the end of last month because of his health problems.

Podolefsky previously was president of the University of Central Missouri, provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Northern Iowa, a department head at Western Kentucky University, a professor at West Virginia University and a research associate at Northwestern University.
