Fairy Cakes Holiday Treats

Kelly Audette and Mo Torpey, owners of Fairy Cakes Cupcakery, recently celebrated two years at 289 Parkside Avenue.

“Being across from the zoo is such a big deal. The neighborhood is awesome,” says Audette. “Tons of people come in and it’s a lot of fun.”

This bakery specializes in making cup cakes, pies, cookies and seasonal desserts. This duo works hard to serve up 10 different flavors of cup cakes a day.

“We always have a basic vanilla cake, devils food cake and red velvet. Then the other seven flavors rotate daily,” said Torpey.

Inspiration to open a bakery came from grandma’s kitchen. Audette fell in love with her grandmother’s traditional recipes, which is the foundation for her treats today.

They also experiment, putting their use of tradition and imagination to the test.

Audette said, “We take flavors that we’re familiar with or that we like and mix it up with something new.”
