Two local mothers have made their business idea a reality as they team up to fill a void for area families. "My big focus with the business, as a whole, I wanted this to be a place that could adapt to children of any age, any skill level," says Danielle Destenfano, co-owner of 7KidsPlay.
The facility is an enrichment center that offers everything from baby motor classes, yoga and music sensory activities to private occupational and physical therapy, speech, guided reading and more.
But the children taking part just know it as fun. Destenfano has a doctorate in physical therapy. She teamed up with her sister-in-law turned business partner Lucy Wells to create 7Kids, named after their own seven children. It is located at a former daycare site at 7041 Transit Road in East Amherst.
Wells says she saw the need for such a facility first hand, as a mom, when her son needed speech services. "So if I had somewhere to go where my son could get speech and everyone else can play its a win-win for everyone," Wells said. "As opposed to everyone moaning they have to get into the car for an hour and half and wait."
Along with individualized services and group classes, 7Kids offers open play, a café for parents to relax and classes for them to take part in as well. But most rewarding for these female business owners: seeing kids bonding and simply being kids.
"What's nice about our space, when you come into the open play, there's nothing electronic so they can't go to a TV, they can't go to a computer, those silly games," Wells said. "They have to think about what they're doing."
7KidsPlay has certified instructors for all program including reading and speech, which have been cut from many school districts.
