BUFFALO, N.Y. – Eric Mower and Associates, one of the top U.S. independent marketing communications agencies, has promoted Doug Bean to chief operating officer. In the newly created position, Bean assumes agency-wide management responsibility for driving value for EMA clients and creating growth across the organization’s seven offices.

“Doug comprehends the needs of our clients and is deeply committed to their success. His strategic thinking and organizational leadership have been a key part of EMA’s growth and success, not just in Buffalo but across the organization,” said Eric Mower, EMA chairman and chief executive officer. “EMA has grown into a much more sophisticated professional service enterprise, and in a time of great change for the marketing and communications industry, we see Doug as the right person to ensure that EMA’s formidable resources are benefiting all of our clients. Going forward, Doug will work closely with me and our long-time Managing Partner and Chief Financial Officer Fran Nichols.”

Bean has been a managing partner at EMA since 1999. He will continue to serve as head of the firm’s Buffalo office and a key leader of the agency’s nationally recognized Brand Promotion Group. He joined EMA in 1990, when EMA combined with Levy, King and White in Buffalo.

“The marketing communications industry is in the midst of a five-year renaissance in which change is occurring at a faster pace than we’ve ever seen before,” Bean said. “We’ve been working hard to stay ahead of the digital curve, so we’ve got the right knowledge and capabilities to help our clients. It’s an exciting time to be in this business, and I’m looking forward to helping drive growth for both EMA and our clients.”

An active participant in industry, educational and civic organizations, Bean serves as a member of the Upstate New York Council for the American Association of Advertising Agencies; trustee for Buffalo’s Shea’s Performing Arts Center; chair emeritus of the Dean's Advisory Council at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) School of Management; adjunct professor for the Executive MBA Program at UB; and board member for EPIC (Every Person Influences Children). Other volunteer engagements include the Healthcare Industries Association, Child and Family Services, and the United Way.

Bean is a past recipient of the Buffalo Business First Leadership Award, the Western New York Advertising Community’s Crystal Prism Award, National Federation of Just Communities Leadership Award and UB’s School of Management Community Award. He is also a 1999 graduate of Leadership Buffalo.

Bean earned a master's degree in business administration from UB, a master's in liberal studies from Dartmouth College, and a bachelor's in English from Kenyon College.
