In one of the first steps needed to insure an expansion by FedEx Trade Networks Transport and Brokerage, the Erie County Industrial Development Agency has set a public hearing to consider an incentive package being offered to the firm.
The ECIDA will hold a March 28 public hearing in the Tonawanda Municipal Building as it considers the $10.6 million expansion project. The hearing begins at 2 p.m.
Officially, the incentive request is coming from 555 Riverview Parkway LLC, an affiliate of TM Montante Development LLC, who building the new center for the FedEx unit.
Fed Ex has agreed to build an 88,000-square-foot main operations center in the Riverview Solar Technology Park. The building includes 33,000-square-feet of office space and 55,000-square-feet of warehouse operations.
According to ECIDA documents, the project will see Fed Ex retain 600 jobs while creating another 82 positions. Eventually, the center could house as many as 962 workers, depending on future expansion phases, ECIDA documents indicate.
Construction could start by early May and the building is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014.
The Erie County Industrial Development Agency is expected, at its April meeting, to consider an incentive package for the project.
Empire State Development Corp. is offering a $2.6 million incentive package, that's also expected to be approved this spring.
There will be a green element to the project with Montante building a 100-kilowatt solar array system that will help save on energy costs.
