Dinosaur's rep builds for barbeque

Word is filtering out nationally about Dinosaur Bar-B-Que months before the Syracuse-based chain makes its entry into Buffalo.

Dinosaur shows up in a ranking of 10 of the best barbeque joints in the nation, according to Forbes.com. The chain, which is due to open on Franklin Street in downtown Buffalo in autumn, was listed eighth in the review.

Said the authors:

"Good smoke since 1988," is the motto of this ultra-popular restaurant group that started in Syracuse, NY and has long been a favorite of everyone from families to motorcycle enthusiasts. Today Dinosaur is in growth mode, and there are five additional locations in Stanford, CT; Newark, NJ; Troy, NY; Rochester, NY and New York City, and if you are traveling through the Northeast, it is hard to go wrong. All are big, bustling, high energy and crowded - waits at the huge Manhattan outpost can stretch 2-3 hours for weekend dinner. The popularity is easy to explain: the menu is broad, creative and very well priced, with lots of combo and sampler choices, there is a lively bar scene with craft beers, and the food is very good and quite substantial. The thick sliced brisket is not quite up to Texas standards, but very good otherwise, and the sausage is house made and spicy. The meaty St. Louis cut pork ribs are the best of the BBQ meats, and the sides and apps are very interesting, especially the standout smoked chicken wings, fried green tomatoes and BBQ Fried Rice, a riff on the Chinese version studded with small chunks of BBQ pork. There are also entree options you won't see at other joints, like South American churrasco chicken, Korean-style short ribs, cold smoked rib eye steak, plus a huge array of tempting desserts. In sharp contrast to the minimalist meat-first Texas style, everything comes with choices of sides for big platters."
