A lot of people are spending time at the office today doing holiday shopping. Today marks five years of Cyber Monday, the ceremonial kickoff to the online holiday shopping season when shoppers flood websites looking for holiday offers. Many people will be surfing websites from work today. The National Retail Federation says it's easier for many people to shop at work and keep gifts a surprise for children and spouses.
Many will shop at lunch time or at the end of the day. NRF researchers say employers are O.K. with it since "many businesses understand that Americans' work and personal lives are merging, and they would rather have employees shopping online at work than driving all over town during their lunch hour looking for the perfect gift."
The NRF estimates that about 55% of consumers will shop from office computers today. Researchers say almost 57% of men and nearly 72% of young adults will shop online for holiday items.
Shoppers can take advantage of one-day deals right up to midnight.
