Competing for Geico Jobs

Geico recently announced plans to create 800 to 1,000 new jobs in WNY, but how hard is it to land one of those jobs? That's the focus of a report in today's Business First. It says "for every 100 applications, just four or five will get hired." That's because Geico is looking for people who want to win, who want to succeed and who can handle a call center environment. Not everyone is going to fit that mold. Workers at a Geico call center spend long hours on the phone with customers, but they do get perks like an on site fitness center. The employee turnover rate is about 20 percent, compared to the call center average of 33 percent. If you think what you have what it takes, check out today's Business First.

Buffalo State College is getting a new name, "SUNY Buffalo State." It has been approved by the SUNY chancellor. The school is also creating its first ever crest featuring the Rockwell Hall clock tower. It's all part of a marketing campaign to promote the college. This summer, SUNY Buffalo State will invest $1 million to improve signs around campus as it polishes its appearance.
